WAG, Yulia Dresses Well??

August 14, 2008

Well the Daily Mail reckons yes but I’m not so sure. yes it’s an improvement on the dreadful shell suits but its still not great!

The pregnant WAG took a trip to the shops with her fiance Andriy Voronin and son earlier in the week and looked ok, I suppose.

Well when you’ve worn an all-in-one leopard print shell suit with heels, any improvement is a good one.

Yulia wore a short silky purple dress that showed off all her bumps slightly unflatteringly, black patent heels and Louis Vuitton bag from a few seasons ago.

A little over-dressed for the shops but we’ll cut her some slack, on the positive side the colour was good and she was showing of some lovely pins. There that was nice!

Lets hope this is a step in the right direction for Yulia, and she’s burned those flippin track suits!!

But to be honest who are we to judge, she’s the one who’s bagged a footballer and he seems like a nice one too.

BARCELONA SECURES ITS CHAMPIONS PRELIMINARY 1º LEG AGAINST WISLA WITH VICTORY (SEE VIDEO)

August 13, 2008

It was new Coach Guardiola´s debut for FC BARCELONA in its
Preliminary 1º Leg game to qualify for this years Champions League
against Polish side WISLA CRACOVIA, & his side
did not disappoint.

The “new look” Barça dominanted throughout the whole game, &
although the final score was 4-0 it could have been much, much
more than what the final score reflects. Barça played well & moved

the ball in the stylish fashion they are famous for with Alves, Keita,
Henry, Puyol, Iniesta, Xavi & Eto´o standing out. However, it was
XAVI HERNANDEZ that deserves a special mention as he is

definately Europe´s best midfielder at this moment. So much so, that
Xavi got on the scoresheet tonight with his teams 2ºgoal in the 24th

min with a powerful “crack” from outside the box.

SAMUEL ETO´O showed why he has earned his place at Barça
& has made the Club “eat their words” by scoring two great goals:
in the 17th & the 83rd min. He is one of the World´s best Center
Forwards & Barça has earned itself money & regained a value

asset for its team. He is having an outstanding pre-season!

Great news for THIERRY HENRY who was mobile, in action,
quick, smart & scored Barça 3ºrd goal in the 50th min. He could

have scored more, but was unlucky & it was enough to show
everyone that he is motivated & that this could be his year.

Great victory for FC Barcelona & the 2º leg should be a
formality for them as they head into Champions League 2008/09

2008 Men’s Olympic Football Quarter-Final Line Up

August 13, 2008

And just like that, the group stage of the 2008 Men’s Olympic Football tournament is over.

The quarter-finals look like this:

Nigeria vs Cote d’Ivoire
Italy vs Belgium
(winners play each other)

Argentina vs Netherlands
Brazil vs Cameroon
(winners play each other)

All matches on August 16th.

Highlights from the final round of group games below (USA fans look away now.)

Argentina 2-0 Serbia - Group A

The albiceleste bear Siberia 2-0 to top Group A with three wins out of three. Angel Di Maria will be embarrassed with his missed pen, but Diego Buonanotte has a nice free kick to add to his highlight reel.

Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 Australia - Group A

Salamon Kalou banged one into the top right corner to give the Ivorians a 1-0 win, and a place in the quarterfinals.

Nigeria 2-1 USA - Group B

The USA paid for their disciplinary problems in this one. Already shorn of the suspended Michael Bradley and Freddy Adu and in need of a result against Nigeria, they lost left back Michael Orozco in the third minute to a foolish elbow. Goals from Isaac Promise and Obinna Nsofor put Nigeria top of Group B, while an 88th minute Sacha Kljestan penalty was all the US had to show for the days work.

Netherlands 1-0 Japan - Group B

Following his dramatic last minute free kick equalizer on Sunday, Gerald Sibon had more bad news for the USA this morning. His penalty giving the Netherlands a 1-0 win over Japan, so one more point than the USA and a place in the last eight.

Belgium 1-0 New Zealand - Group C

This Faris Haroun header was enough to secure second place in Group C for Belgium. Maybe Hamburg will let Vincent Kompany stick around a little longer now?

Brazil 3-0 China - Group C

Ronaldinho put Diego through for the first, and Thiago Neves added two more (a free kick and a blink and you’ll miss it low shot) to make it three-nil and three out of three for Brazil. It still made Bruno sleepy though.

Italy 0-0 Cameroon - Group D

These two shared a goalless draw that put them both through. Italy finished top, Cameroon second.

South Korea 1-0 Honduras - Group D
Kim Dong-Jin scored a great goal with his right foot - apparently - to give Korea a 1-0 win. But Italy and Cameroon’s goalless draw meant Korea never had a shot at making the quarters. Honduras go home three defeats and CONCACAF is left thinking that Mexico would have represented the region a lot better.

August 13, 2008

This mid-week makeup match will have a huge impact upon Zenit’s fading title aspirations. A victory today would see them locked in a tie with CSKA for sixth in the tight title race while a loss will like re-direct their focus towards the Champions League. However in the way of Zenit is Terek Grozny that knows the Zenit squad is weakened and victory in Saint Petersburg will catapult their European dreams forward.

Sat. 19 Zenit St Petersburg 2 - 0 Amkar Perm’
Wed. 23 Zenit St Petersburg 1 - 1 Lokomotiv Moscow
Sat. 2 Zenit St Petersburg 2 - 1 FC Moscow

Zenit will be without both Sébastien Puygrenier and Anatoliy Tymoschuk for the match as they were both red-carded in the Rubin Kazan meltdown. Fatigue is certainly an issue as that was their tenth match in four weeks and today is a test of mental toughness in front of their fans. To rebound from this they will need Viktor Faitzulin, Igor Denisov and Konstantin Zyryanov to step-up for this match in the midfield and Andrei Arshavin and Fatih Tekke to regain their finishing touch. Alejandro Domínguez if healthy and in the line-up could make the difference in this match. The twelfth-man will be big element for Zenit as they have shown in the past to rebound in front of their fans.

Terek Grozny knows the champions are bloodied and on the ropes. They will sit tight in a 3-5-2 and be ready to pounce on their errors, learning from Rubin Kazen’s victory. They will slow Zenit down, keep the ball in the tightly packed midfield and follow a disciplined approach with few errors. Match time decisions on the play of the Romanian trio of Florentin Petre, Andrei Margaritescu and Daniel Pancu will have a dramatic impact on the match.

I will review this exciting match, which is set to begin in one hour, after it concludes. The match is broadcast live online so don’t miss out.
