July 5, 2008

Orlando EngelaarGELSENKIRCHEN (SW) - Dutchman Orlando Engelaar will join German Bundesliga side Schalke 04. The player will be re-united with manager Fred Rutten.

Rutten recently made a move to Schalke from FC Twente, which was also the club where Engelaar became one of the stronger players in the Dutch Eredivisie this season.

The Rotterdam-born midfielder, 28 years old, began his career at NAC Breda in 2000. Four years later he left the Netherlands for the first time to join KRC Genk and in 2006 he signed a deal with FC Twente, whom he helped to clinch a Champions League preliminary round spot for next season.

It is unknown how much Schalke will be paying for the player, who formed part of the Dutch squad for Euro 2008.

Tomasson to return to Feyenoord

July 2, 2008

TomassonROTTERDAM (SW) - Danish striker Jon Dahl Tomasson will be returning to Dutch side Feyenoord Rotterdam. This was announced by a local television channel on Tuesday.

Tomasson will be making the move from Spanish Primera Division team Villarreal, where he stood no chance in a battle with players as Nihat Kahveçi, Guille Franco and Giuseppe Rossi.

The now 31 year old forward played for Feyenoord before from 1998 to 2002, and helped the team winning the UEFA Cup in his final season.

AC Milan signed the player in 2002 and Tomasson would score 22 goals in 75 appearances.

After two seasons at VfB Stuttgart, from 2005 to 2007, Tomasson went on to spent the last season at Villarreal where he scored a relatively low amount of seven goals in 36 appearances.

Chelsea interested in Real Madrid’s Royston Drenthe

November 28, 2007

royston-drenthe.jpg

Chelsea FC has recently revealed their interest in Real Madrid’s Royston Drenthe and its football chief Frank Arnesen is monitoring the player’s deteriorating situation at Real Madrid.

It was also revealed that Arnesen and Chelsea’s Dutch football advisor Piet de Visser were both keen on landing Drenthe in the summer from Feyenoord, but Real Madrid managed to sign the player after the U21 European Championships.

It has been reported that Real Madrid are also trying to offload the player who has been surrounded by controversy ever since arriving from Feyenoord. This will be a very good opportunity for Chelsea FC to snap up the talented youngster who can play in all three positions on the left (left back, left winger, left forward).

I believe that when Royston Drenthe actually becomes available in the transfer market, many big teams will be chasing his signature and it will be interesting to see which club the young Dutchmen chooses.
