- A must read interview with Hoffenheim’s sugar daddy Dietmar Hopp. (Spiegel Online)
- The swimsuit edition of the Hoffenheim story. And a small correction: the article quotes Ralf Rangnick as saying Hoffenheim has the same budget as Energie Cottbus. He was comparing Hoffenheim’s wage budget (€23m) with Cottbus’ overall budget (€23m). Cottbus’ wage budget is €13m. (Sports Illustrated)
- There are really way too many Hoffenheim stories these days, that’s why I won’t link to this one directly. Go to the site and look for it. See it as a test of your commitment to learning more about Hoffenheim. (SoccerLens)

Google Translate: Paris Saint Germain to German
October 24, 2008
I have to give some credit to Google, for not just collecting more and more sensitive data about us, but also making better and better tools. For its’ German language users seeking a French to German translation, Google Translate even tries to find a Bundesliga counterpart of the French club in question. In this case Schalke’s UEFA Cup opponent Paris Saint-Germain (3-1).
So according to Google the good news for Schalke fans is, that they won a derby. The bad news is, that it wasn’t against a particularly good team. It would have been interesting to see what Google Translate would have come up with, if PSG’s coach Paul Le Guen had actually cared to bring some more of his regular starters to Germany…

Colour like no other: 70s Bundesliga Kits (complete with expressive dance number)
October 15, 2008
West Germany in 1974. Bayern were busy winning their European Cup triple. The German national team was busy winning the World Cup. Kraftwerk were busy minimalising their Autobahn record. The Bundesliga Offside blogger Jan was busy weaving the threads of fate to get his parents to date and multiply a bit quicker, fearing he could miss out on all the glory and excitement of German football in the 70s - as he eventually would, receiving mullets and moustaches as consolation. And Günther Netzer was busy perfecting his trademark hair style and was promptly invited to tell the nation about it on the show Das aktuelle Sportstudio. And there he would witness, that adidas had been busy redesigning some Bundesliga jerseys…
So, now is the time on the Bundesliga Offside vhen ve dance!
In order of appearance the alternative kits for: ???, Schalke 04, Duisburg, Hamburg, VfB Stuttgart and Fortuna Düsseldorf. Günther Netzer caps this clip off by saying, that he’s also of the opinion that there should be a bit more colour in the stadiums and that this would be a service to the fans.
P.S.: I couldn’t resist doing some research. The host calls the guy responsible for the colourful spectacle Herr von Garnier. Google and Wikipedia revealed to me that his full name is Friedrich-Ernst von Garnier, (graphic) artist, industrial designer, author and, drumroll, a colour philosopher. In 1974 adidas hired von Garnier to modernise the jerseys of the Bundesliga. The result of this work is shown in this video. Nothing has really come from this afterwards, except for the dance number, which adidas seems to be quite fond of.

- Stereotype proven! Scientists at goal.com labs ™ have analyzed last weekend’s Bundesliga matches and their findings revealed that, when a German team (Bayern) dominates another German team (Bochum) - possession, shots on target, corners, you name it - and the dominated German team still snatches a draw, then the dominated German team (Bochum) is prove of German efficiency, while the dominant and wasteful German team (Bayern) can be completely neglected, due to being harmful to one’s preconceptions. (Goal.com)
- Inspired by Goal.com’s groundbreaking work, the Bundesliga Offside lab ™ is close to finishing a series of statistical analysis, which will demonstrate how Borussia Dortmund’s penalty shootout defeat against Udinese Calcio in the UEFA Cup is prove of German clinical precision during penalty shootouts.
